Our workshop is equipped with modern tools and machinery, which enable us to use or share our skills to make and mend things.
Whether you want to try your hand at general carpentry or woodturning on a lathe, or just like the aroma of coffee and freshly cut sawdust, there is something for you here.
Our 8.5m x 5m (28' x 16') workshop is located in what used to be an explosives storage bunker. The building as a whole is leased by local community group Down to Zero ( https://www.down-to-zero.co.uk/ ), with whom we have a friendly and co-operative relationship. Since gaining permission to use this space in 2023 we have been turning what was an empty concrete shell into a functioning place to meet and pursue our DIY ambitions. Apart from a professional roofer and electrician, all the work has been carried out by our own members.
Photos below illustrate the transformation.
At present the bunker workshop is open on Friday mornings 0930-1230. The focus is still on setting up the room for operational use, including workbenches, dust extraction system, machinery and storage for all the kit.
We take health and safety seriously and require that members are trained and certified before using any mains-powered tools and machinery.
Contact us or call in on a Friday morning to take a look in person. Directions to the bunker workshop are on the CONTACT/FIND US page
